A Clinical Update for Renal Dietitians: Strategies for Improving Outcomes in Secondary Hyperparathyroidism

The purpose of this monograph is to describe current understanding regarding the development of secondary HPT in CKD, examine the link between abnormal mineral metabolism and increased mortality, and present a review of treatment options with special attention to the availability of new therapies.There are a number of recent advances in understanding the roles of traditional and emerging therapies, like calcimimetics, for treatment of secondary HPT in CKD.These emerging therapies provide potentially more effective and safe treatments for abnormal mineral metabolism in patients with CKD.
